Is there a list anywhere that shows which DMA's are considered "home areas"
by which NFL teams? I have seen them for other sports, but not the NFL.

thanks

Write the names of the NFL cities next to the team names and you will have
the list of DMAs. Note the number 2 DMA doesn't have a home team.

Thanks, but not exactly what I was looking for.

I need to know which zip codes are claimed as "home areas" by which NFL
teams. Right now, I'm claimed by two teams...Baltimore and Philly. There
are other zip codes, like my parents, that are claimed by those two teams,
plus Washington. So, what I'm getting at, is that some areas are more
affected by blackouts than others, and some, like LA, aren't affected at
all, from what I have read, since they have no NFL team.

I'm just trying to identify which areas are covered by blackouts of which
teams. It's not as simple as just writing the names of the NFL cities next
to each team. The coverage areas of the NFL teams extend far beyond the
geographical boundaries of their particular cities. Perhaps I should have
been more clear in my question, but that is essentially what I was looking
for.

Here is a link for entering a zip code to determine an NFL blackout area...

Click on "Click here" in last paragraph under
Q: "What are the blackout rules for my local team's home games?"

The following excerpt suggests blackout areas are not easily determined.

"Each stadium's local blackout area is defined by the broadcast signal
of the local affiliate carrying the game, not by the mileage surrounding the stadium."

North,

It matters not since NO NFL games are on regional Sports networks. All NFL
games are on OTA Network Affiliates, if you get the retransmitted OTA channel
via Disih Network then you get the game.

If you are talking about NFL Sunday Ticket it won't matter to Dish Subs as
DirecTV has exclusive rights to NFL Sunday Ticket, but if you are a DirecTV sub
then any Subscriber within 70-80 miles of local stadium WILL be blacked out
regardless of if he purchased the NFL Sunday Ticket. If the Local game is
soldout within 48 hours of the games start time the local Affiliate CAN carry
the game, if not the local affiliate will carry an alternate game.

As a Dish Sub I have an RV exemption and get BOTH LA and NYC distant OTA
channels and NO games are blacked out, in fact there has been an occasion my
local affiliate being requried to blackout the "HOME" team and I was
fortunately able to get the game on a NYC channel.

Is
I subscribe to both Dish and DTV, as well as local basic cable. What is
blacked out on one, is generally blacked out on all of them. As far as the
blackouts go, the distance from the NFL stadium doesn't really matter. It
is whether or not you are in the grade B contour of the local OTA broadcasts
carrying the game. I can get distant nets with Dish too (through waivers)
and I have used them in the past to get games that have been blacked out
locally. I use DTV for the NFL Sunday Ticket. I'm really not asking about
RSN's though. I'm asking about local affiliates. Basically, what zip
codes are claimed by what teams as local areas. I am trying to find a list
that shows which areas would be affected by blackouts of which NFL teams.

For example, I'm about 200 miles from Philly, yet the Eagles games are
blacked out locally when they don't sell out 72 hours in advance of kickoff
because a station in York, PA (WPMT) broadcasts Philly home games and they
say I'm within their grade B contour. I'm also within grade B contours of
Baltimore and D.C. stations. D.C. is never a problem, cuz the Skins always
sell out, but in the event of a Ravens blackout in Baltimore, I'm also
affected, even though I'm in Pennsylvania, about 130 miles away from the
stadium. However, the CBS affiliate in Baltimore that broadcasts Baltimore
Ravens games reaches my area, under optimum conditions. They say I'm within
their grade B contour, so I also am blacked out for Ravens games. Distance
from the stadium isn't considered in the NFL's blackout policy. It's what
stations cover which areas (zip codes).

Other than L.A., which has no NFL team and thus no NFL blackouts, I'm trying
to see what other areas are in that position, as well as figure out what
areas are affected by blackouts from what teams. DirecTV has a place on
their website to input a zip code and it'll tell you which teams claim that
area as their home area, but rather than looking up a bunch of zip codes and
entering them one by one into this form, I was hoping to just find a list.

Thanks

You grasp the rules, but there isn't anthing I know of that will list the
zip codes that fall into an NFL team' "home territory". It largely falls
into which zip codes are able to receive a Grade B of a station that would
carry the game into the home team's area. Distance to the stadium doesn't
matter at all - it is whether the CBS/FOX affiliate in your DMA would be
sending it signal into the team's territory. I'm in the Sacramento DMA
and am blacked out of Raider games (OFTEN) because if my CBS were to
broadcast the game, its Grade B would extend into the SF/Oak/SJ DMA -
therefore, every zip in the Sacramento DMA (w/in a Grade B) will be
blacked out of the home team DMA. The Chico DMA can broadcast it because
its Grade B doesn't extend to SF (but can extend into the Sacramento DMA
that is blacked out).

By far, the best site I've every seen for Grade B contours is Bernie
Sexton's, but it seems to be broken at the moment. You could keep trying
http://www.bsexton.com/cgi-bin/tv.cgi for a few days, or you could enter
the individual zip codes into the DirecTV blackout checker. I don't think
you'll find an easy list of zip codes that will be in the blackout area
for any given NFL team.

I've been playing around with that form on DTV's site, which must be based
on some DMA/NFL database. I was just hoping to see the database to browse
it, rather than search it, one by one. Thanks for the response, and I'll
try that site over the next few days to see if it comes back up.
