The dishplayer will not get the software via Web TV. I've tried a
million times to connect to web TV but to no avail. My phone number
has never changed. People keep telling me to just let it get the
software but leaving it on all night did me no good. I've had it. I
put the dishplayer on Ebay at 3PM for a buy now $250. It sold in less
than 1 hour. I even told the Ebay uses that the player would get hung
up getting the update via web TV. I had a 6 year old model 3000 up in
my attic collecting dust. I call Dish network and they are letting me
trade the model 3000 for the new 510, it's cost me just $99. So I sold
the Dishplayer for $250 - $99 for the 510 and I'm still ahead of the
game $151. I know I have to pay $5 a month more for the 510 fee but I
figure that 5 goes into 150 30 times so I'm even after 2.5 years. I
did love my dishplayer though. I know a lot of people here hate dish
network but speaking only for myself they have been very good to me.
Quality over cable is far superior. I'm a big DVD fan so I know what
looks good on my 60" wide screen TV and I for one know that dish
network looks and without question sounds better than cable. I can't
wait for the 921 to be released. Anyhow thanks for all the help with
my problem with my dishplayer.

Post by Bill RPost by DavidI put a new hard drive in my dishplayer and when ever i turn it on it
trys to connect to Web TV. Is there anything I can do to get it to
install the software that will enable it to function as a dish network
receiver. Thanks for any info.
In order to operate, the DishPlayer needs both the receiver
software and the CLIENT software. Since the client software
is stored on the hard drive (and you replaced that) it needs
to "call in" and get a new copy of the client software. It
does that by calling WebTV (now, the MSN TV servers). The
download takes about 40 minutes and you will have to go
through the complete setup once you get it.
