"EchoStar Communications and Dish Network chairman and CEO Charlie Ergen
took over as president of the satellite-TV service, as well. He assumes
those duties from Carl Vogel, who exited as president for what were
described as "personal reasons." Vogel remains vice chairman of EchoStar
and Dish and will continue to head up corporate development.

To help him run Dish's operations, Ergen tapped Erik Carlson to be
executive vice president of operations, overseeing installations,
cusomers service, billing and equipment. He had been senior VP of retail
services and sales. Tom Stingley, senior VP of alliance management, was
named executive VP, sales and distibution."

02/05/08: Charlie Ergen Takes Over as Dish Network President ...
So he's the asshole who ordered "Dish" to call all its customers with
that obnoxious recorded message on the telephone this week?
It's hardly fair to single out poor Charlie, and call him an "Asshole".
...As Dish employs countless numbers of other assholes who may have been
responsible.
I sense a bit of distaste for Dish Network here.....

And as president of the company, he's responsible for their conduct....

Not a distaste for dish; a distaste for telemarketing.

If you call the DiSH robot back there's a prompt to get your number blocked.

Call someone who telemarketed me - I don't think so.

You're probably someone who replies to spammers.

I'm a DISH customer (for several years) and didn't get any call from
them.

No. Just someone who got the DiSH call every night (didn't even know
who it was) and just decided to call it back one day (they ALREADY HAD
MY NUMBER!!). The do not call prompt was one of the first choices. I
haven't had a call from them since.

I only get about 8-10 telemarketers a week. Not a lot. I keep my
Caller ID on my home theater screen activated and it's really a very
minor inconvenience.

Why do you put up with 8-10 telemarketers a week? You do know that you
can put your number on the National Do Not Call Registry list, don't
you? You can sign-up here: https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx

Are you that gullible ?
Putting you name on any "do not call" list, just tells every telemarketer
and junk mailer on the planet that you exist.

Hey maybe you should put a sign in your front window that says all the
priceless valuables in your home are marked with your drivers license, and
social security numbers.
So the crooks know that when they steal it they also can steal your identity
too.

Of course why should a Dish customer worry ? You already gave them all your
information, and it's already accessible by any of their minimum wage call
center CSR's.
And we ALL KNOW that Dish <cough, cough> only worries about their customers
best interests.

Altogether now Dish customers,.......Ba-aa-a-a-a !

The National Do Not Call Registry is a federally run program. Any
telemarketer who calls a number on that list (with some exceptions; eg
existing business arrangement, political party) is liable to be fined.

This is completely different to a "reply to us and we'll take you off
our list" scheme run by many scammers (which merely affirms you pay
attention to the spam!)

Did I ACTUALLY say that FEMA was not well run ?
<LMFAO>
I merely pointed out that the "Do not call registry" is maintained by the
same government, so is likely every bit as efficient and effective.

I suggest you read more about the IMF and the Chicago Boys before you
accuse the government of being incompetent. They are being very
deliberately unresponsive to practice for the "big one".

Since I have a business relationship with DiSH, as well as Rite-Aid,
etc., the list won't apply.

Not necessarily. It may be the law, but I've asked many businesses I have a
relationship with to put me on their Do Not Call list and most if not all
have. They probably figure it's better to retain my business than call me
: )

In spite of your rant the "do not call" list DOES work. Our calls went
from about 10 a week to about one every month or so.

I know whatever I post or recommend you are going to "crap on" because
that is just the kind of ass that you are. NO ONE knows the answers
except you. The problem is that you are just plain wrong most of the time.

I would have "crapped on" that post no matter who made it.

That is was you, is just a double blessing.

I've been on DNC lists even before they were national (before the federal
registry, some states, including Missouri, where I lived at the time, had
their own,) and I still get a half-dozen or so calls a week from
legitimately exempt organizations (charities, prior biz relationships, etc.)

I'm not complaining- it's down from the half-dozen a DAY I used to get
prior to the DNC list.

As an unaffiliated voter (I'm not registered as a Democrat or a Republican)
I seem to get it from both sides during election season!

I'm an independent also. When I get a recording, I hang up. When I get a
real live human, I tell them I always vote for the party that doesn't annoy
me will political campaign calls. Alas, it doesn't work.

BTW, Ex-President Clinton called me before the last primaries. I don't know
much of what he said 'cuz I hung up : )
